CDM awareness is a high-level overview of the regulations and the responsibilities of those working within them. The course highlights the key areas of preconstruction and construction stages and the roles of principal contractors and sub-contractors. The course includes a brief look into the paperwork required and expectations of site operations.

CDM awareness can and should be delivered to those working on operational construction sites and those in an administrative planning role for works on construction sites. This includes all trades but is not limited to plumbers, joiners, electricians, mechanical engineers, builders, labourers and plasterers.

• Client Duties: Clients must ensure that construction work is planned, managed and monitored safely. This includes appointing competent professionals and providing necessary information to all parties involved.
• Principal Designer and Principal Contractor: For projects involving multiple contractors, a Principal Designer and Principal Contractor must be appointed. They are responsible for coordinating health and safety measures during both the design and construction phases.
• Designers: Designers must consider health and safety risks throughout the design process, ensuring that their designs minimise risks to those involved in the construction and future maintenance of the building.
• Contractors: Contractors are required to plan, manage and monitor their work to ensure it is carried out without risks to health and safety. This includes providing appropriate training and protective equipment to their workers.
• Workers: Workers must take care of their own health and safety and cooperate with their employers to ensure compliance with CDM Regulations.
