PASMA For Managers: Who Should Attend this Course? post image

In order to comply with Working at Height regulations, employers and those in a position of control (including construction and facilities management companies and anyone planning work at height activity) must ensure that work is properly planned and supervised.

This includes having the right type of equipment, hiring and training competent people, and employing skilled supervisors to oversee the work being conducted. PASMA tower training isn’t just essential for operatives, but it’s also necessary for any managers on site.

Here is everything you need to know about the PASMA For Managers course, who should attend, what is covered, how long certification lasts, and what the prerequisites are.

What is PASMA For Managers?

PASMA For Managers is a one-day course, delivered through the leading industry body for all matters relating to mobile access towers in the UK – provided only by PASMA registered and approved training centres.

Who should attend the PASMA Managers course?

It is essential for employers to consider sending potential managers and supervisors on the PASMA Managers course. Designed for those who are responsible for ensuring personnel on site are competent, trained and supported in the use of mobile towers, this training programme helps to create a safe, effective team structure, arming your supervisors with the knowledge and skills to make sure equipment is used, inspected and maintained properly.

All work at height activity must be planned and fully supervised in order to stay within HSE guidelines and comply with regulations. Therefore, anyone who is working under the capacity of supporting planning, direction and governance should have access to suitable training.

What is covered during the course?

PASMA training courses for managers cover everything required for the safe assembly, use, dismantling and moving of a mobile access tower. This includes topics such as current legislation, the PASMA Code of Practice, tower safety, methods for repositioning, accident prevention, and inspections.

How is certification achieved?

At the end of the course, delegates will need to take a short theory test in order to obtain PASMA certification. On successful completion of the test, course attendees will receive a PASMA qualification as well as a PASMA photo ID card.

For many organisations, the PASMA certificate and ID are usually the only forms of accepted proof of competence.

How long does certification last?

The PASMA qualification and photo ID will be valid for five years. Once your ID expires, managers will be required to re-sit a written and practical test. Once this has been passed, you will receive an updated certificate and photo card, which will be valid for another five years.

What skills/experience is required for attendees?

While there are no prerequisites in place, such as formal qualifications, in order to attend the PASMA Managers course, it is beneficial for delegates to have the appropriate experience.
This means having a basic understanding of the Work at Height Regulations and the Health and Safety Act 1974, as well as the use and application of mobile towers.
